Forum of CEOs of State Social Health Insurance Agencies in Nigeria Train New Members on Managing Health Insurance Ecosystem
Date
With support from the LHSS Project, the Forum of CEOs of State Social Health Insurance Agencies (SSHIAs) and Contributory Schemes in Nigeria organized a peer-learning event for 14 newly appointed CEOs of SSHIAs from Nasarawa, Plateau, Akwa Ibom, Taraba, Niger, Osun, Ekiti, Jigawa, Rivers, Kano, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Benue states.
The session allowed experienced CEOs and Dr. Shekwonugaza Gwamna, the former Forum Chair and current Commissioner of Health in Nasarawa state, to share insights on managing complex health insurance ecosystems and address new CEOs' frequently asked questions. Presentations covered topics such as the role of SSHIAs in advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC), leveraging ICT for efficient health insurance schemes, and understanding the political economy in managing stakeholders. Contributors included Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi (CEO, Anambra SHIA), Dr. Rock Amegor (CEO, Edo SHIA), Dr. Francis Ukwuije (WHO Health Economist), Prof. Chima Onoka (NHIA), Dr. Chioma Ajator (Deputy CMAC, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital), and Dr. Bolanle Olusola-Faleye (USAID LHSS Project’s Chief of Party).
USAID’s LHSS Project will continue supporting the Forum to foster cross-learning, aiming for all Nigerian states to achieve UHC by 2030.
